Join Altec for the National Moment of Remembrance on Memorial Day
Did you know that from Memorial Day to Labor Day, Americans consume 818 hot dogs EVERY SECOND (7 billion total)?! We certainly love our BBQ, and we also like to travel. With the pandemic subsiding, millions of Americans are ready to hit the road again this weekend. In fact, AAA reported earlier this month that more than 37 million people are expected to travel 50 miles or more from home between today and Monday.
Considered the unofficial start of summer, Memorial Day kicks off everything summer, from wearing shorts and flip-flops, to visits to the beach or pool, great summer food and forced family fun (i.e. family vacations)!
And while most of us relish the 3-day weekend from work and school, it’s an important holiday for America. Celebrated on the last Monday in May, Memorial Day celebrates the over 1.35 million Americans in the armed forces that have selflessly sacrificed their lives for our freedom since the Civil War.
Let’s not forget the reason behind this holiday – remembering the sacrifices made by the men and women who gave their lives to keep us safe. In celebration, join Altec for The National Moment of Remembrance. Established by Congress in 2000, all Americans, wherever they are at 3 p.m. local time on Memorial Day, are to pause in an act of national unity for a duration of one minute.
Check out these fun facts about Memorial Day, and make sure to show your patriotism by flying the American flag. Have a great weekend!
