Getting to Know Altec – Nick Lombardi

As interest for DocLink grows, our sales team continues to grow as well so we’re highlighting one of the company’s newest team members for our Getting to Know Altec blog series.

Help us welcome Nick Lombardi, Software Development Representative! Based out of our Laguna Hills headquarters, Nick is focused on helping educate prospects about how DocLink can help them start on their digital transformation journey.

California born and bred, Nick grew up in Carmel by the Sea, and graduated from UC Santa Barbara with a degree in Clinical Psychology and Education. Throughout his life surfing has played a big role. But there’s a lot more to him than just catching a wave. Keep reading to get to know more about him.

What did you do before landing at Altec?

I worked as a surf instructor during college, and then moved to SoCal to work as a behavioral technician at an autism center. I loved working there, but simply couldn’t make ends meet. With my interest and knowledge of surfing I had the opportunity to join Lost, the #1 surfboard maker in the world, in sales management for their shops in California.

What made you want to go into sales, and what attracted you to Altec?

At Lost, I spent time in each store on the floor, talking to people and matching them to the perfect surf board. I loved that aspect of the job – I got to know our product really well and talking to people came easy to me. I’m really interested in people’s experiences, and I’m definitely more relational when I’m selling. It’s all about building relationships and trust for me.

Through surfing I met a couple of guys from Altec who turned me onto the position. I knew NOTHING about accounting software but I was looking to make a shift into a corporate position and Altec has turned out to be a great opportunity for me.

What do you like most about your career?

Definitely the people, everyone at Altec has been so welcoming and the sales team is amazing. I’m learning so much through our everyday interactions and activities, everyone’s been so helpful, and I really appreciate that. The company has big goals and aspirations, but the people are so casual and friendly so it’s been an easy transition for me into the corporate world.

What are your responsibilities at Altec?

I guess you’d say I’m on the front lines, the first person who reaches out to prospects to determine what they’re looking for and what’s the best fit for them, and getting them started on their DocLink journey. It’s very similar to my favorite task at Lost, being able to speak with a variety of people and see what we can do for them is very rewarding to me.

What do you like best about Altec?

Definitely the people, I love being part of a hard-working but fun team and I couldn’t ask for better coworkers.

What’s the most interesting customer interaction you’ve had so far?

Definitely the conversation I had with one person about their cats. I’m an animal lover too so it was just a random discussion about their personalities and how naughty they were being at that moment!

What do you like to do outside of work?

Definitely surfing. It will always be my go-to if I have any spare time, it just brings me happiness. I think a lot, and always have different thoughts swirling around in my head, and getting on the water helps me get out of my head and organize everything. It’s a mix of activity and white noise – it just helps me work through my thoughts and figure a lot of things out. I also love making surf boards. There’s something about shaping the board for a specific surfer or result, it’s super satisfying. I may even like it more than surfing!

In that same vein, I’ve also taken to cooking. I’ve always been interested in it, the best times we’ve had as a family is being on vacation and cooking together or making crazy cocktails like the show Chopped, with a bunch of random ingredients. I don’t like recipes, I like to go with the flow. And my cooking always includes sautéed elements, I love how fire can create such amazing taste. Sometimes it’s great and sometimes, not. But my best and favorite dish is my homemade pasta.

If you could live anywhere else, where would it be?
