Getting to Know Altec – Lori Corbino

As part of our Getting to Know Altec blog series (last month we interviewed Jessica Quintanilla, Director of Professional Services), this month we are highlighting Lori Corbino, Altec’s Customer Care Manager based in Laguna Hills.  As our customers know, Lori is their main point of contact for direction, so take a few minutes and read below to get to know more about her!

What was your first job?

It was at Cookie Munchers Paradise in Long Beach, a local cookie store.  I worked there the summer before college, my best friend got me that job!  I really thought I would just be able to play the summer before college but my Mom insisted I work so I ended up selling yummy cookies!

If you could live anywhere, where would it be?

As crazy as California is, I think I’d stay where I am, it really is amazing to be so close to mountains, desert and the beach.  I love to travel and experience new places but California is a great home base for us.

What do you like best about working at Altec?

Customers and coworkers definitely.  I have been very lucky to be able to work with great people on both ends.  As the middle man typically, I get contacted by customers with a problem, and because I have amazing coworkers that have my back and help to fix problems, customers are affable and easy to work with.  We have a great team here at Altec that provide excellent support so that our customers can really appreciate DocLink.

What is your favorite activity to do outside of work?

My husband and I like to bike ride and travel – I wish we could afford to travel as much as we bike ride but we do enjoy both and often get to combine them together! For biking, we love to ride at the beach, but we also enjoy long rides as well.  Our favorite ride is Tour De Palm Springs which is a fundraiser designed to raise money for nonprofit organizations in the Coachella Valley.  It’s a beautiful ride.  We also use the opportunity to take the Palm Springs Aerial Tramway for the stunning views it offers.

As for travel, we’ve been very fortunate to see some amazing places and experience so many amazing things.  We’ve travelled spectacularly, visiting 20 countries – one of our favorites was The Baltic in Northern Europe, because we went to St Petersburg where we saw the ballet Swan Lake.  But every place we’ve visited has been an unforgettable adventure.

What’s the most challenging thing about your job?

Time, or lack of time is the most difficult.  Trying to be there for all customers and to be proactive versus reactive is my biggest challenge.

What is your favorite thing about your career?

My entire adult work life I have been a problem solver – I’m not necessarily the one to provide the answers but the ability to work with great people to solve problems is gratifying.  I like the feeling of helping people this way, it’s what I do, I’m good at it and I thoroughly enjoy it.

If you could have a conversation with any person living or deceased, who would it be and why?

My mom for sure.  She had a severe stroke from a brain tumor when I was 19, losing her ability to communicate, so I would like to be able to ask her questions about her life and family.  She was really wise and sage beyond her years, I’d like the opportunity to better understand how she became the person she was.

What would you sing at karaoke night?

Well…the one time I went to sing karaoke I was on one of the first dates with my now husband.  My sister, cousin and I were up there to sing “I Heard it Through the Grapevine” and the machine broke, which was probably a good thing because otherwise I probably wouldn’t have had a second date!  I seriously cannot carry a tune!

What makes you laugh the most?

I laugh all the time at silly stories, dumb jokes and really just goofy experiences with travel, and with friends and coworkers.  Pretty much anything and everything, I try not to take life so seriously and laughter is the best medicine.

If you could choose to do anything for a day, what would it be?

Definitely lay by the pool and read.

What is your favorite meal?

Anything that involves wine!

If you were a super hero, what powers would you have?

To be able to heal everyone, to stop people from being sick and in pain.

What was the last thing you recorded on TV?

Modern Family, it makes me laugh so hard, every aspect of that family is so true and hilarious.
