Finding the Silver Lining on International Day of Happiness

Today is International Happiness Day, and while you may not think that there’s anything to be happy about, we disagree!  An article by The Guardian this week states that, “Now, more than ever, is the time for us to be proactive about creating small moments of happiness in our days.”  So while the world is in a daily state of flux, there are things each of us can do to appreciate what we have and find ways to celebrate happiness.

There’s so much information and guidance out there for how to keep your kids focused and entertained during this crisis, and thank goodness we have so many ways to stay connected to friends and family!  But what about work?

Your current working environment most likely looks A LOT different than it did last week.  Many of us are working remotely, which can be a tough adjustment – although working in your pajamas is a plus! But how can you maintain the social aspects we all enjoy with our coworkers?

At Altec, our teams are working remote, and we are lucky and happy to be operating, for the most part, “business as usual.”  While it’s very easy at this time to focus on the negative, our company is celebrating International Day of Happiness by reflecting on how lucky we are to be able to continue to do our jobs even when we can’t be in the office. We do not take it for granted, and we wanted to share some of what we’re doing to continue social interactions.

Video conferencing has been a great resource for our company, allowing us to get some face time among our teams. We are able to conduct team meetings as usual and utilize it for collaboration internally.  And we continue to interact with our customers, prospects, and partners through webinars, even when many of our in-person events over the next few months have been canceled or postponed.

And of course, having DocLink makes it easy for us to remotely access, search and retrieve documents as needed.  Our team is able to:

  • add new documents to DocLink including sales orders
  • send sales orders through workflow
  • submit and approve vendor invoices
  • submit expense reports for work-from-home essentials like Bluetooth keyboards and wireless headsets
  • reconcile credit card expenses

Most importantly, we find happiness in our ability to continue supporting our customers – it’s our priority to help make sure they can operate “businesses as usual” too.

In the spirit of this International Day of Happiness, take some time out of your day to reflect on some of the good that is happening in your life right now.  And hopefully you can find ways to stay socially connected with your coworkers like us!
