Altec Remembers Fallen Soldiers for Memorial Day

Most of us relish Memorial Day as it’s a 3-day weekend from work and school!  Considered by many as the unofficial start of summer, the long weekend kicks off everything summer, from wearing shorts and flip-flops, to visits to the beach or pool, great summer food and forced family fun (ie family vacations)!

But Memorial Day is an important holiday for America.  Celebrated on the last Monday in May, Memorial Day celebrates the over 1.35 million Americans in the armed forces that have selflessly sacrificed their lives for our freedom since the Civil War.

Many cities around the country celebrate with parades, music festivals, and running/bike/car races of all kind.  And, according to wallethub.com in their 2018 Memorial Day by the Numbers article, Memorial Day is the second leading holiday for BBQ’ing with 60% of Americans grilling!

But let’s not forget the reason behind this holiday – remember the sacrifices made by the men and women who gave their lives to keep us safe.  Join Altec for The National Moment of Remembrance.  Established by Congress in 2000, all Americans, wherever they are at 3 p.m. local time on Memorial Day, are to pause in an act of national unity for a duration of one minute.

And make sure to show your patriotism by flying the American flag.  Have a great weekend!
