ALTEC EXECUTIVE BRANDT MORRELL RECEIVES “BOARD MEMBER OF THE YEAR”
AWARD FROM MERCY HOUSE – SANTA ANA HOMELESS SERVICE PROVIDER
Santa Ana, Calif., May 20, 2004 - The City of Santa Ana’s Community Development Agency for Housing and Neighborhood Development held their eighth annual “Celebrate Santa Ana 2004” in the Santa Ana Performing Arts Building on May 20th to recognize various community leaders. Brandt Morrell, President and COO of Altec in Laguna Hills, was awarded “Board Member of the Year” for his contributions and service to Mercy House, a Santa Ana homeless service provider. In addition to serving as a Mercy House Board Director, Brandt spends hands-on time as a volunteer life skills facilitator at Mercy House’s Joseph House and Regina House programs. “When Brandt first learned of our need for career counseling at these programs, he immediately took initiative and stepped up to the plate to get involved,” remarked Larry Haynes, Executive Director for Mercy House.
After researching specific needs, Brandt designed a curriculum for career development that includes individual and group instruction on resume writing, job search skills, interviewing techniques, workplace etiquette and problem solving skills. As a life skills facilitator, Brandt spends several hours a week, without financial reward, preparing, teaching and mentoring the residents.
“Brandt truly inspires each individual he serves to reach beyond his or her dreams and achieve their potential. His efforts are far reaching and serve not only Mercy House but also our community by promoting self-sufficiency and helping to end the cycle of homelessness. Our goal at Mercy House is simple…to end the cycle of homelessness of those who enter our system of care. We help people find their way back home,” say Haynes.
